The jute fibre is grown on fields and comes from the stem and outer skin of the jute plant. A process call retting harvests the material’s fibres. Retting consists of grouping the steams together and running them under slow running water. Once retting is complete, the non-useful material is removed with only the essential fibres from the jute steam kept. It is a difficult job stripping and finding the crucial fibres.

Jute is the second most important fibre extracted from a vegetable. In some applications jute is considered better than cotton. Jute is more environment-friendly than cotton because it needs less water, pesticides, maintenance and fertilisation for it to yield significant crops.
